The Program
Not a box of sensors. An integrated system.
The Building Health Network is a permanent structural monitoring program built for each individual building. It does four things continuously, and the fourth is what most owners have never had before: a permanent, organized record of how their building has actually behaved over time.
Monitor
Measure real movement across the structure, continuously, from foundation to roof.
Interpret
Separate normal wind and temperature movement from trends that deserve an engineer’s eye.
Inform
Tell residents, boards, and managers what is happening in plain language, not raw numbers.

Preserve a permanent, time-stamped record of the building’s performance and maintenance.
How It Works
Measured against ground that does not move.
A robotic instrument, set on its own deep monument well away from the building, precisely sights fixed targets mounted at several elevations on the structure. Before every reading, it also sights a small network of independent reference monuments to confirm that the instrument itself, not the building, has not shifted. This self-checking network is the difference between a real measurement and a guess. The reference network is structurally independent of the building.
Optical measurement is paired with sensors mounted on the structure itself: tiltmeters that catch lean and rotation, accelerometers that capture sway and vibration, and crack and joint gauges that watch known trouble spots. Environmental sensors record wind, temperature, and rainfall so every movement can be read in context. The mix is tailored to each building.
What It Watches
The questions a building should be able to answer.
Does it move, and return?
How far the building sways in high wind, and whether it settles back to its normal position afterward.
Long-term settlement
Whether the structure is gradually settling over months and years, and how fast.
Differential settlement
Whether one part of the building is moving differently from another, the kind of movement that actually stresses a structure.
Tilt, rotation, twist
Small changes in lean or torsional movement that a person could never feel but an instrument can measure.
Crack and joint movement
Growth or opening at known cracks, expansion joints, and structural separations.
Environmental response
How the building responds to temperature, wind, rainfall, and tidal or groundwater change, so normal is understood.
Storm Monitoring
The night everyone wants to know: did it come back?
When a tropical storm or hurricane is forecast, or a sensor detects unusual movement, the system shifts into storm mode. It measures the critical points many times per second, records the peak movement, the direction, the sway frequency, and how long the building takes to return to its baseline. After the storm, it compares the building’s position to where it stood before, and reports whether it fully recovered or holds a small permanent offset that an engineer should review.
- Normal mode. Scans every few minutes. Tracks daily and seasonal trends, slow settlement, and long-term tilt. Routine reports.
- Storm mode. Activates on a wind threshold, a storm warning, an unusual reading, or manually. High-speed sensors capture the dynamic response while the system documents peak displacement and return-to-baseline behavior, then issues a post-event report.
The App
One building. One clear answer for everyone.
Every monitored building gets its own Foundation Masters page and app. It is built to be read by an eighty-year-old resident on a phone, not by an engineer. It answers three questions at a glance: what is the status, is the building behaving normally, and is there anything I need to do.
Plain language
Current status, a simple explanation, recent trend, storm updates, and who to contact. No raw numbers required.
Records and alerts
Sensor health, alert history, engineering-review status, downloadable reports, inspection records, and the maintenance log.
Full data
Coordinates, displacement vectors, tilt, acceleration, crack movement, thresholds, calibration, and audit trail.
Status Levels
A simple signal, backed by real thresholds.
Every building shows one of four statuses. The thresholds behind them are not generic. They are established by a licensed engineer for that specific structure, so the signal means something real for your building rather than an arbitrary number.
Green · Normal
Sensors healthy. Movement within the building’s established range. Returning to baseline. No unusual trend.
Yellow · Elevated
Movement approaching a review threshold, or an unusual trend. Monitoring frequency increases. No emergency conclusion.
Orange · Review
A predetermined review threshold exceeded, or a persistent change. Engineer and manager notified. Inspection recommended.
Red · Attention
Significant, sensor-confirmed exceedance. Predefined response procedures and professional evaluation initiated.

The Building Health Network is built by the engineers of Foundation Masters to do the hard part: establish a baseline for each building, separate normal reversible movement from meaningful change, and set review thresholds that are sealed by a licensed professional engineer for that specific structure.

What monitoring is, and is not.
The Building Health Network is an early-change-detection and structural-performance monitoring program. It does not guarantee that a building is safe, does not predict the time of any structural event, and does not replace required inspections or professional engineering judgment. A green status means the installed system has detected no unusual movement within the building-specific monitoring range; it is not a certification of structural safety. Review thresholds and responses are established by qualified professionals for each structure. Monitoring complements the inspections and reserve studies required by law; it does not substitute for them.
